The Initiative Team

Andrea Richardson is the Climate Change Adaptation Coordinator for Nova Scotia’s Archaeology Sector. She is employed by the Cape Sable Historical Society under a two-year grant from the Climate Plan of the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Geography at Saint Mary’s University, she went west to do a Master of Arts in Archaeology at the University of Calgary. Andrea has more than 25 years of experience as an archaeologist in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia, and a research interest in the impacts of climate change on archaeological sites. She started her current position in 2023.

Implementation Team:
The implementation team is a small group of archaeologists from a range of backgrounds who are volunteering their time and skills towards our common goal of taking action to help identify and protect archaeological sites endangered by climate change. The team meets regularly to plan and create events and materials, gather data, and to reach out to the rest of the archaeology community and interested local communities in Nova Scotia with an aim to consult, document, and discuss potential management strategies to mitigate the effects of our changing climate.
